The District of Fort St. James regrets that there will be no formal Remembrance Day activities this year due to the affects of the Corona Virus global pandemic and the orders given by the Provincial Health Officer.

Representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph in Spirit Square on November 11th. We are unable to hold the annual colour parade or the official ceremony.  Residents are asked to pay their respects by laying a poppy at the Cenotaph throughout the day and to observe two minutes of silence at 11:00 am. Please remember to allow space between one another and wear a mask while at the Cenotaph.

From Mayor Motion: “I am disappointed that the community was unable to find a way to hold some form of modified (COVID safe) Remembrance Day event on this November 11th and encourage all Fort St James residents to honour our veterans by placing a poppy at the Cenotaph and observing the Two Minute Silence at 11:00 am.”

In lieu of in person ceremonies, there are opportunities to participate virtually:

  • The Royal Canadian Legion will livestream the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa on its Facebook page.
  • The University of British Columbia will be live streaming a broadcast from the War Memorial Gym: https://events.ubc.ca/ubc-remembers/
