The District of Fort St. James is pleased to announce that Ryan McVey has been hired as its new Fire Chief. Ryan has 26 years of experience in the fire service. He has served both as a volunteer firefighter, a full-time firefighter, and as an Emergency Medical Technician. For 10 years Ryan worked in law enforcement as a deputy and detective before settling in Fort St. James. During the Shovel Lake wildfires in 2018, Ryan took over command of the volunteers at the Fort St. James Fire Department and worked diligently to protect our community. Ryan says he is excited to work in Fort St. James and help to protect the community he resides in with his family. He is eager to take steps to increase the volunteer membership at the Fire Hall and highlight the excellent work the Volunteers do in Fort St. James. Ryan wants to teach children about fire safety, as well as encourage older youth to consider the fire service as a career choice. Mayor and Council extend a warm welcome to Ryan and look forward to working with him at the Fort St. James Fire Department.
