The District of Fort St James is, and has been working diligently to maintain the aging chiller infrastructure at the Fort Forum Arena. Annual maintenance has been ongoing as per Technical
Safety BC requirements over the summer. The Ice Plant at the arena was installed in the early
1960’s and requires maintenance to ensure that the community can use the arena safely each
season.

Early this week, an integral part to the system suffered a malfunction and will require a
replacement part and 7-8 weeks for repair. Despite the efforts of the public works department,
contractors and arena staff, the breakdown of the chiller could not have been anticipated. District
staff are disappointed about the delay in ice installation but continue to work hard to make
repairs and strive to reopen this vital community asset as soon as possible.
